NIGERIA: BROKEN, BUT NOT BEYOND REPAIR

Frustration, because Nigeria in 2023 looks too much like Nigeria in 1999. We returned to democracy with the promise that civilian rule would bring accountability, security, and shared prosperity. Twenty-four years later, corruption is more sophisticated, insecurity has spread, and a generation of young Nigerians feels abandoned by the system.
Hope, because the story is not finished. In every chapter of Nigeria’s post-1999 history, you find people who refused to accept the status quo. Bishops who spoke when silence was safer. Communities in the Niger Delta who documented oil spills and took multinational companies to court. Young people who organized #EndSARS with nothing but phones and courage. Civic tech groups that made budgets readable and projects trackable. Churches and NGOs that ran schools, hospitals, and skills centers when the state failed.
